File delete
[edit]Hello Gbawden, Greetings! In Aug, 2021, you deleted: File:Harshika Poonacha.jpg stating it as: ‘Personal photo by non-contributors (F10)’. But it was a properly licensed Youtube screenshot image. Few months ago I came to know about the delete, and now its unavailable in Youtube. Now could you plz recover the image? --Gpkp (talk) 14:58, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Gpkp You should not upload a different photo onto an existing image like you did with this one. You need to re-upload it with the source but I will likely nominate for deletion as I am not sure if the image of her was correctly licensed. The source showed a video of her in their video - a DW - so licensing of the original image is unclear Gbawden (talk) 15:34, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- Gbawden.. The point of confusion here is the filename: 'Harshika Poonacha.jpg'. The file with same name was deleted twice before, once in 2013 and 2012 (uploaded by some other users), but I uploaded it only once and that was in 2021. I might have uploaded two times (means two revisions as of two different frames, but only that of a single video), but not two different images of the actress from different sources . I just used the full name of the actress in the file-name.
Now regarding the Youtube video, the channel owner: ‘Classic Education’, reached the actress and requested her to wish its viewers on 2021 new year's eve, and published it under free CC license (available in description of the source), in Youtube. The screenshot was properly licensed and it was reviewed too, as you can see the details in the deletion comment. Only thing the screenshot missed was, a category and remained uncategorized which sure I will add once after it is recovered. --Gpkp (talk) 06:02, 8 September 2025 (UTC)

- @Gpkp I would request undeletion at COM:UNDEL = i am not convinced that the video shown within the video is free but you can put your argument forward Gbawden (talk) 06:33, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Did it.. Thank you Gbawden. --Gpkp (talk) 07:54, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Wiki Commons Photo Usage
[edit]Hello, Recently, a photo was deleted from the DJ Cummerbund Wiki Page. I spoke to both the subject and the photographer, and they weren't sure how to provide permissions/evidence of ownership as well as how to grant full permissions to use the image in the article. Could you please advise the best way for them to do this? Thanks! Petertickelshea (talk) 14:42, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Edit as of Sept 20, 2025 - the owner(s) of the photo reached out to VRT and made clear the photo was free from any copyright. License has been noted in picture file - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DJC_Seattle.png Petertickelshea (talk) 16:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedian,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2024.
Round 2 will end at UTC.
If you have already voted for Round 2, please ignore this message.

Category:Your_Smith has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

This image was originally properly uploaded by User:Oliva Bruggemans, and used afterwards on Facebook, using a proper name attribution. It appears that you might have wrongly interpreted this as a supposed copyright infringement? Another campaign administrator User:Hilke Arijs replied to your deletion announcement, but too late; the image was already removed, so she could only publish the text "This image on Wikimedia Commons was used afterwards on Facebook with proper attribution, so it was deleted by error". Could I please request that you undo the deletion of the original image, and restore again the original image? This image makes part of a photo contest for which I am the primary coordinator. Thanks a lot. --Geert Van Pamel 17:05, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Geertivp Photos previously published online need to have permission confirmed via VRT. We see a lot of photos found on the web being uploaded here and we have to err on the safe. You can request undeletion at COM:UNDEL Gbawden (talk) 11:56, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Gbawden -- Actually it was the reverse way: somebody else on Facebook used the picture from Wikimedia Commons as an illustration of a Facebook article. --Geert Van Pamel 12:14, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
